Amy Karatz, Vice-President—Amy has served on the ELVN Board for seven of the ten years she has lived in Lakeview. Her son attended school here, and she has enjoyed watching the revitalization of East Lake View through projects such as the Inter-American School, renovation of Lakeview Presbyterian Church, and the new GLBT Center. Amy owns a Home Staging business in the neighborhood, and represents homeowners living east of Broadway.
Michael R. Lufrano. Secretary—Mike is senior vice president, community affairs and general counsel for the Chicago Cubs. A longtime resident of Lakeview, Lufrano is a graduate of Lane Technical High School. From 1993-95, Lufrano served in the White House as special assistant to the President and deputy director of advance. Lufrano currently serves as chair of the Board of Trustees of the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School at Broadway and Grace. He is a member of the ELVN Board, the Central Lakeview Merchants Assn. board and past-president of the Wrightwood Neighbors community association.
Terie Kata, Treasurer— Active in ELVN since 1991, Terie served as Chair for five years and Treasurer for 3 years. She lives near Dakin and Sheffield, and is an active member of several local community and business organizations. With James Murphy, Terie made the Oktoberfests successful and profitable fundraisers. Terie's goal is to chair fund-raising events to support non-profits in our community and increase ELVN membership.
Board
Susan Hagan—A five-year Board member, Susan has lived in East Lake View since 1993 and in the area since 1983. Susan is the ELVN delegate to the LVCC and to Alderman Tunney’s CDDC. She was Chair of the Residential Committee for the 44th Ward’s Master Plan, and was part of the Plan’s Task Force. Susan was a Charter Member and past Vice President of Lake View’s first Rotary Club as well as on the Lake View East Chamber of Commerce board. Susan is a self-employed Realtor and also works with seniors in Lake View.
Nora Fox Handler—Nora has lived in a Lake View vintage high-rise for four years, and also owns a rental condo in the neighborhood. She currently helps her sister, who is the primary caregiver to their three brothers with developmental disabilities and mental illness. Nora serves on a number of boards and panels, both local and national, advocating for people with disabilities and mental illness. She joined the ELVN Board in March 2006 because she cares deeply about her community. Nora would like to use her board and fundraising experience to help ELVN continue to grow and have a positive impact on Lake View.
Mike Lavelle —Mike has been on the ELVN Board for ten of his 16 years of membership. He continues to provide ELVN with legal advice pro bono. Now in private law practice, Mike previously served in appointed positions in state and local government, where he gained a keen knowledge of the City of Chicago and ward operations that serves East Lake View well.
Beth Murphy—Beth has lived and worked in East Lake View for close to 30 years, where she has demonstrated a strong commitment to enhancing the community’s quality of life. Her business, Murphy’s Bleachers, has actively supported ELVN for over 15 years. Beth has served on the ELVN Board since 2003, as well as being an active member of the LVCC Board, leading the support of local businesses for their Spring Fundraiser. Her support of ELVN’s annual Oktoberfest has allowed us to raise more than $60,000 for local charities over the past four years. Beth owns both a business and rental property in East Lake View.
Jean O’Neill—Jean was a founding member of ELVN and has served on the Board since its inception. She remembers struggles with slumlords, gangs, and graffiti.
